In his first official appearance following his election, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV issued a heartfelt call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Speaking from the window of the Apostolic Palace after leading the Angelus prayer, the Pope addressed tens of thousands of faithful gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
“I am deeply pained by what is happening,” he said. “Let the fighting cease immediately, let humanitarian aid be provided to the exhausted civilian population, and may all hostages be released”.
