Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs Condemns Attack on Church in Lebanon: Violations of Holy Sites Reflect a Repeated Israeli Pattern Across Palestine and the Region

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine strongly condemned the desecration and abuse of a church in southern Lebanon, as documented in widely circulated video footage showing Israeli soldiers vandalizing church property and violating the sanctity of a sacred place of worship.

The Committee affirmed that this incident is not an isolated occurrence but rather part of a broader and deeply troubling pattern of attacks against churches, Christian religious symbols, and places of worship in Lebanon. Such actions mirror the longstanding practices carried out against Muslim and Christian holy sites in Palestine, where places of worship, clergy, and religious institutions continue to face systematic violations and repeated assaults.

Furthermore, the Committee emphasized that these violations once again expose the stark contradiction between Israel’s repeated claims of respecting religious freedom and the reality on the ground, where holy sites and religious symbols in both Palestine and Lebanon continue to be subjected to recurring attacks and desecration. The Committee warned that the continued targeting of religious institutions and places of worship represents not only an assault on local communities but also on humanity’s shared spiritual and cultural heritage.

The Committee called upon the international community, churches around the world, human rights organizations, and relevant international institutions to take a clear and principled stand against these violations and to intensify efforts to safeguard holy sites and protect freedom of worship. It urged the international community to ensure accountability for those responsible and to end the culture of impunity that has allowed such acts to continue without consequence.
