CHRISTIAN DENOMINATIONS CELEBRATE PALM SUNDAY WHILE OCCUPATION AUTHORITIES PREVENT THEM FROM RAISING THE PALESTINIAN FLAG DURING THE JERUSALEM PROCESSION

Christian denominations yesterday celebrated Palm Sunday marking the victorious entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and the start of Easter week. Palm Sunday processions took place in Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Ramallah. In Jerusalem, thousands of Christians last night participated in the scouts procession throughout central Jerusalem and walked around the Old City.

During the procession, Israeli police prevented the procession participants from raising the Palestinian flag, confiscating it from them. According to Father Shomali, Israeli police attacked worshippers who were carrying Palestinian flags on their way to St. John’s Church in the city, calling this an assault on the freedom of worship and expression and national affiliation. He said every year the marchers raise the flag but that this time Israeli forces wanted to make an issue of it. He added that Israeli police detained four youths for raising the Palestinian flag near Lion’s Gate (Al Ayyam-NEWS)
