In a statement issued by Dr.Ramzi Khoury, president of the Higher Presidential Committee of Churches Affairs and director general of the Palestinian National Fund on the commemoration marking 53 years of the Naksa, “Jerusalem with its Holy sites will remain the eternal capital of the State of Palestine, despite the oppression and occupation, which this year escalates its American-backed attacks to liquidate the Palestinian national project through the implementation of the annexation plans stipulated by the so-called American Deal of the Century.
The Committee affirmed that the Palestinian people represented by President Mahmoud Abbas, are all together against the conspiracies and projects targeting the Palestinian presence and its cause, and together in the struggle to end the occupation for self-determination and the return of our people to establish an independent state with its capital, Jerusalem.
The Committee warned of the danger the occupying power is posing on the security and stability in the region by intensifying its aggressive measures towards our land and our people, especially the occupied city of Jerusalem by repeatedly targeting the Islamic and Christian sanctities, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque and preventing the Muslim worshipers from accessing it, with repeated expulsion of its members and worshippers such as Sheikh Ikrima Sabri, the preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and other defenders of Jerusalem, not to mention the recent horrific murder of the martyr Iyad Al-Hallaq, a 32 years old Palestinian with special needs.
The committee added that the time has come for the international community and its institutions to take a practical stand to confront the Israeli occupations’ policy that will drag the region into more instability and chaos because of its ambitions to annex more Palestinian lands and deprive our people of their rights, in a flagrant challenge to international law , trying to change the legal and historical status quo of the holy city.
The Committee appealed to all international bodies and the Churches of the world to intervene urgently to stop the series of intimidation, terrorism and oppression practiced by the Israeli occupation against our people, pursuing and arresting its national and religious symbols in an attempt to break the will of the Palestinian steadfastness on its land and implement its colonial projects.
