Archbishop Elie Bechara Haddad appointed consultant by His Holiness Pope Francis.

Dr. Ramzi Khoury, President of the Higher Presidential Committee of Churches Affairs, contacted Archbishop Elie Bechara Haddad, Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Archeparchy of Sidon, to congratulate him on his appointment by His Holiness Pope Francis as a consultant to the Pontifical Council to interpret the laws of the Eastern Churches.

Minister Khoury conveyed the greetings of PresidentMahmoud Abbas and the Higher Presidential Committee of Churches Affairs, expressing their appreciation on “the positions of His Holiness Pope Francis, for his support to the Palestinian cause, and the selection of Archbishop Al-Haddad for the position of consultant.

Furthermore Dr. Khoury extended his thanks to Archbishop Al-Haddad for the support he provides to the Palestinian people in Lebanon, especially in the regions of the diocese of Sidon and Deir al-Qamar, and his stances in support of the Palestinian cause, both emphasizing on the importance to continue strengthening their communication in a way that serves the consolidation of the Christian and Arab presence in general, and the Christian presence in the Holy Land in Palestine.

Archbishop Al-Haddad expressed his gratitude to Dr. Khoury for his efforts and for the role of the Committee in preserving the Christian presence in the region, especially in Palestine, where the Israelioccupation targets the Christian and Islamic holy sites.

Archbishop Al-Haddad conveyed his greeting to President Mahmoud Abbas and stressed on the importance for the world to acknowledge the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state and the return of the Palestinian refugees.
