On behalf of Dr. Ramzi Khouri, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Chairman of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Ambassador Omar Awadallah, a member of the Presidential Committee, met with the Secretary-General of the World Council of Churches, Reverend Dr. Jerry Pillay, in the presence of the Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Ibrahim Khraisha.
Pillay was presented with a letter from Chairman Dr. Ramzi Khouri, which conveyed respectful greetings from His Excellency President Mahmoud Abbas and extended an invitation to the Council to visit Palestine. The letter also expressed deep appreciation for the Council’s unwavering support to the Palestinian people and their just cause. Pillay emphasized the paramount importance of the Council’s role in upholding principles of justice and equality while firmly denouncing the injustices inflicted upon the Palestinian people as a result of Israeli occupation.
The two parties discussed the situation of Christians in Palestine and the need for continued joint work to preserve and strengthen their presence. The Presidential Committee presented a seashell gift to President Pillay as a token of appreciation for their continuous support and solidarity with Palestine and its people.
