“The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs” stated that the extremist Ben Gvir’s remarks about the assault on Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem are serious, and are a clear and direct threat to Christians in the Holy Land.”

The Higher Presidential Committee for Churches Affairs in Palestine condemns with the strongest terms the racist comments made by Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israeli minister in charge of the police, during an interview regarding the assault of spitting at Christian pilgrims by extreme Israeli Jewish settlers in Jerusalem, where he said that spitting at Christians was “not a criminal case” and that not everything “justifies an arrest”

Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Churches Affairs in Palestine, Dr. Ramzi Khouri stated that Ben Gvir’s remarks, who never shy away from his anti-Palestinian abhorrence stems from his deep hatred towards the Palestinians. He emphasized that attacks on Christians and Christian tourists have become widespread and more common, particularly in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Furthermore, Khouri warned against the dangerous escalation of such attacks against Muslims and Christians alike in Jerusalem, including Holy Sites, calling upon the international community and world churches to act immediately and take serious measures to hold Israel accountable.
