President Abbas receives cable of thanks from Executive Director of CMEP

President Mahmoud Abbas today received a cable of thanks from the Executive Director of the Churches for Middle East Peace (CMEP), Mae Elise Cannon.

President Abbas received the cable of thanks from CMEP Executive Director, Cannon, in recognition of his contribution to the celebration of CMEP’s 40th anniversary at the annual Advocacy Summit held in Washington D.C. during the period from 9 and 11 April.

In her cable, Cannon expressed appreciation to President Abbas for dispatching a Palestinian Christian delegation to the Advocacy Summit.

Among the members of this delegation were Mitri Raheb, Founder and President of Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem, Jack Sara, President of Bethlehem Bible College, and Shireen Hilal.

Cannon expressed her appreciation for the contribution of each of the delegation members, who educated the US audience on the reality of the living of the Palestinian people, particularly in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

She noted that the CMEP Advocacy Summit called for an immediate comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza and facilitating immediate, unhindered and sufficient access to humanitarian aid.

The CMEP Advocacy Summit also called for withholding arms from Israel, ending the Israeli occupation and releasing all detainees and hostages.

She also appreciated the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs, headed by Ramzi Khoury, for their participation in the summit and focusing on raising awareness of Christians as fundamental contributors to the Palestinian society, and considered such participation as a renewed call for international cooperation to confront ethnic cleansing in the Palestinian territories, particularly in Gaza.
