Member of the PLO executive committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Dr. Ramzi Khouri, took part in the opening session of the 11th Canon Law Conference for Judges of the Latin Ecclesiastical Courts in Arab countries. The event was held in the Dead Sea area in Jordan.
The conference was inaugurated with a welcoming speech by the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa. During his address, Cardinal Pizzaballa extended his warm greetings to Dr. Ramzi Khouri, Issa Kassissieh, member of the Presidential Committee and Ambassador of Palestine to the Holy See, Dr. Mohammad al-Ghazo, Head of the Jordanian Judicial council, along with all attendees.
Cardinal Pizzaballa began his address by highlighting the ongoing devastation and displacement in Gaza due to the Israel’s war, praying for a swift return to peace and an end of this war.
He emphasized the significant role of this conference in educating those in the legal field -—judges, lawyers, and institutions involved in ecclesiastical law—to better serve families and humanity at large.
The opening session saw participation from prominent figures, including Archbishop Alejandro Cedillo, Dean of the Tribunal Rota Roman (ordinarily acts as an appellate court of higher instance at the Apostolic See), several members of the Roman court, bishops and judges from Latin ecclesiastical courts across Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, as well as experts in canon law, numerous lawyers, and parish priests.
