The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine condemns the recent demolition of symbolic church model and three agricultural structures by Israeli occupation forces in Al-Makhrour area in Beit Jala, west of Bethlehem. In a statement issue by Dr. Ramzi Khouri, member of the PLO executive committee and head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, the committee denounced this act as a blatant assault on both religious sites and Palestinian property and part of Israel’s broader strategy to displace Palestinian landowners and empty this area of its people.
The committee highlighted that the church model, erected by popular resistance activists in collaboration with the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission and the Al-Makhrour Landowners Committee, served as a symbol of steadfastness in the face of land theft. The destruction of this symbolic structure further highlights Israel’s relentless violation of the Palestinian people’s religious and human rights, showing utter disregard for international laws and conventions.
The committee urgently called upon the international community to condemn this act and to take immediate steps to end Israel’s continued assaults on Palestinian holy sites and property. Furthermore, it stressed the critical need to hold Israel accountable for its repeated violations against the Palestinian people and their property.
