Under the Patronage of Dr. Ramzi Khouri: Opening of the Christmas Market at the Catholic Action Center in Bethlehem

The Christmas Market at the Catholic Action Center in Bethlehem was officially inaugurated today under the patronage of Dr. Ramzi Khouri, Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, representing His President Mahmoud Abbas.

The opening ceremony was attended by Tony Marcus, Dean of the Center, members of the Board of Directors, representatives of various churches, prominent community figures, and members of the Higher Presidential Committee, including Dr. Samir Hizboun and Jihad Khair, Director of the Committee’s Bethlehem Office, as well as Raed Hanania, Director of Public Relations and Media. The event also witnessed a large turnout from the residents of Bethlehem.

The inauguration took place in a spiritual and national atmosphere, featuring a joint prayer led by clergy from different churches, symbolizing unity of purpose and message, and reflecting the true meaning of Christmas rooted in hope, peace, and steadfastness, particularly in light of the challenging conditions facing the Palestinian people.

In his address, Tony Morcos emphasized that the Christmas Market represents far more than a festive occasion, highlighting its humanitarian and social dimensions and its role in strengthening community solidarity, supporting families and children, and promoting the values of giving and mutual support.

Morcos also praised Dr. Khouri’s continued support for church institutions and humanitarian and social initiatives in Palestine, commending his efforts to strengthen the resilience of the Christian community. He noted that Dr. Khouri’s presence embodied a national and humanitarian message that unites faith with community service and reinforces the values of solidarity and generosity in serving society.

He stated:
“This market we inaugurate today is not merely lights and decorations; it is the result of sincere cooperation and genuine intentions. It is a living testimony to the spirit of Christmas and a clear message that a people who believe also know how to turn faith into action and hope into initiatives that bring joy, especially to the hearts of our dear children.”

The opening of the Christmas Market at the Catholic Action Center reaffirms the importance of preserving the spiritual and humanitarian essence of Christmas in Bethlehem, strengthening the steadfastness of its people, and supporting community initiatives that embody the true message of Christmas despite all challenges.
