The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine participated in the Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the Church of the Holy Redeemer in the city of Jenin. The Committee was represented by member of the Committee, Mr. Mousa Hadid, in the presence of Jenin Governor Kamal Abu Al-Rub, Bishop William Shomali, Grand Mufti Mohammad Saeed Salah, leaders of the security and police services, Father Amer Jubran—Priest of the Church—clergy from various denominations, and a number of official, national, and community figures. Scout groups also took part in the celebration.
In his remarks, Mr. Hadid conveyed the greetings and Christmas wishes of Dr. Ramzi Khouri, member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, emphasizing that Christmas carries profound meanings of joy, peace, and love, and plays an important role in strengthening unity, hope, and social cohesion. He noted that the lighting of the Christmas tree symbolizes renewed hope and reflects a spiritual and humanitarian message rooted in noble human values, inspired by the call of Christ—the messenger of peace and light—to spread goodness and compassion.
Speakers at the ceremony highlighted that Christmas represents an opportunity to renew the values of peace, love, and unity, foster hope among citizens, and underscore the importance of social solidarity and the preservation of spiritual and humanitarian principles.
The event was also attended on behalf of the Committee by Acting Director General Hadeel Mashreqi, Sami Karam, and members of the Committee’s staff.
