As part of ongoing coordination with church institutions, Dr. Ramzi Khouri, Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, paid an official visit to the headquarters of the Bible Society in Bethlehem.
Dr. Khouri was received by Mr. Nashat Filmon, President of the Bible Society and President of the General Union of Bible Societies in the Middle East, in the presence of Reverend Tony Nassar, member of the Society’s Administrative Board, along with the Society’s staff. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Khouloud Daibes, member of the Committee, Jihad Khair, Director of the Committee’s Bethlehem Office, and Raed Hanania, Director of Public Relations and Media at the Committee.
During the meeting, Mr. Filmon highlighted the historical legacy of the Bible Society, founded in 1816, and underscored its continued commitment to serving Palestinian society through its dual mission: an ecclesiastical role addressing spiritual and religious needs, and a social-developmental role aimed at supporting communities across various sectors. He noted the Society’s active presence throughout all Palestinian governorates, with particular emphasis on its sustained humanitarian support for the people of the Gaza Strip amid the exceptional and ongoing challenges they face. He also emphasized that the Society operates within a global network spanning 153 countries worldwide.
Mr. Filmon commended Dr. Khouri’s efforts and leadership, praising his steadfast commitment to church affairs and his role in strengthening the resilience of Palestinian society. He further stressed the vital role played by the Higher Presidential Committee in unifying ecclesiastical and national efforts.
For his part, Dr. Khouri expressed his appreciation for the Bible Society’s longstanding and impactful work, reaffirming the Committee’s readiness to enhance cooperation across various fields in support of the Christian presence and in service of the Palestinian people.
