Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Dr. Ramzi Khouri, received a delegation of Orthodox clergy from the Ramallah Governorate in the presence of the newly elected Mayor of Ramallah, Jack Saadeh. Discussions focused on the conditions of churches and the growing challenges facing the Christian presence in Palestine amid the ongoing escalation and repeated violations targeting the Palestinian people and their land.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Khouri congratulated Mayor Saadeh on assuming his new responsibilities, wishing him success in serving the city of Ramallah and advancing municipal and national efforts in support of the Palestinian people and their steadfastness.
The meeting underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between churches and national institutions, while following up on issues of shared concern in a manner that reinforces the resilience of the Palestinian people and safeguards the historic and authentic Christian presence in Palestine.
Dr. Khouri reaffirmed the historic and national role of churches in serving Palestinian society and defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He stressed the importance of national unity in confronting current challenges and the need for collective efforts to protect Palestinian Christian communities and their holy sites.
For his part, Father Elias Awwad of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration and Head of the Council of Churches in Ramallah, expressed appreciation to the Committee and Dr. Khouri for their continued support of churches and Palestinian Christians. He praised the Committee’s efforts in addressing church affairs and strengthening the steadfastness of the Christian presence in Palestine.
The meeting was also attended by Committee member Mousa Hadid and Director of Public Relations and Media Raed Hanania.
