Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs Pays Tribute to Archimandrite Chrysostomos, Hegumen of Deir Hijleh Monastery

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine participated in the funeral services of Archimandrite Chrysostomos, Hegumen of the Monastery of Saint Gerasimos (Deir Hijleh), who passed away. The funeral services were held at Deir Hijleh Monastery in the presence of a large official and public gathering from across Palestine.

The funeral liturgy was presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, Patriarch of the Holy City and All Palestine and Jordan, in the presence of clergy from the Patriarchate. In his address, His Beatitude paid tribute to Archimandrite Chrysostomos, recalling his spiritual and humanitarian journey, his years of dedicated service to the monastery, and to the Palestinian people.

The funeral was attended by Mr. Ismail Abu Jaber, representing the Governor of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, and Dimitrios Angelosopoulos, Consul General of Greece. Representing Dr. Ramzi Khouri, Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, was a delegation from the Committee comprising Acting Director General Hadeel Mashriqi and Director of Public Relations and Media Raed Hanania.

Also in attendance were the mayors of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, representatives of the security services, prominent community figures, and residents of Jericho and the Jordan Valley, alongside mourners from across Palestine.

The broad official and public participation reflected the profound respect and esteem in which Archimandrite Chrysostomos was held, as well as the lasting spiritual and humanitarian legacy he leaves behind. Throughout his years of service at Deir Hijleh Monastery and in the surrounding community, he played a significant role in serving the Palestinian people and in preserving and promoting the monastery’s historic and religious significance.
