The Higher Presidential committee of Churches Affairs in Palestine condemns the Israeli attack worshipers on Holy Saturday

The Higher Presidential Committee of Churches Affairs in Palestine condemned the Israeli violations and attacks on worshipers participating in the Holy Saturday celebrations, as well as placing barriers to impede Palestinian access to the Church the Holy Sepulcher.

This came in a statement issued by the President of the Presidential Committee and the member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Dr. Ramzi Khouri, warning of escalating conditions in Jerusalem as a result of Israeli provocations against Palestinian citizens and the violation of their Islamic and Christian sanctities, and preventing them from practicing their worship freely in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church Of the Holy Sepulcher.

The statement referred to the attempts of the Israeli government to exploit the previous period during the Corona pandemic and the absence of worshipers for two years from the Holy City due to preventive measures to impose a new reality in determining the number of worshipers participating in religious ceremonies, which was rejected by the churches and called on believers not to comply with unfair decisions that are in the interest of the Israeli plan. To Judaize Jerusalem and empty it of its residents, which is what the Presidential Committee called for earlier to travel to the occupied capital and pray in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In the statement, the Presidential Committee called the international community and human rights institutions not to tolerate Israeli policies, and to stand by the Palestinian people who are prevented from exercising their most basic rights to pray without restrictions or obstacles. This is guaranteed by the international legitimacy that Israel violates to lead the region to the tension, stressing that what is happening is due to the lack of a deterrent for the apartheid government in its desecration of the sanctity of churches and mosques, and the attacks on Muslim and Christian citizens and clerics.
