Khouri Meets with Church Leaders, MPs, and Officials, hails Norway’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state, during Official Visit to Norway

Member of the PLO Executive Committee and Head of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Dr. Ramzi Khouri held separate meetings with key figures in Oslo, during his official visit to Norway. Among those he met were, the Bishop of the Church of Norway, Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, representatives of the Council of Norwegian Churches, members of the Norwegian parliament from the Christian Democratic Party, and the Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion at the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

During these deliberations, Khouri hailed Norway’s courageous decision to recognize the state of Palestine, describing it as a significant step toward achieving a just and comprehensive peace. The meetings also focused on the efforts of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs to enhance cooperation with Churches in Norway.

The conversations highlighted the suffering of the Palestinian people under the Israeli occupation, Israel’s genocidal campaign in Gaza, and atrocities in the West Bank, including Jerusalem. Emphasis was placed on the urgent need to stop the Israeli aggression, enforce a ceasefire, and allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza.

There was a consensus on the importance of creating a political horizon that ensures justice for the Palestinian people through the implementation of international resolutions related to Palestine, including the enactment of the two-state solution, ending the Israeli occupation and upholding the right of self-determination for the Palestinian people.

This visit is part of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine’s effort to garner support for the Palestinian cause, recognizing the significant influence Churches have.

Khouri was accompanied by members of the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine, Amira Hanania and Dr. Omar Awadallah and Palestine’s ambassador to Norway, Marie Antoinette Sedin.
