Statement by the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine on the Occasion of Eid al-Adha

“The Palestinian People Mark Eid al-Adha amid a somber reality of grief and destruction, as Israel’s onslaught on Gaza Rages”

Israel has placed a pall over Eid al-Adha celebrations for the Palestinian people, depriving them from joy and happiness amid death and destruction in Gaza and throughout the occupied Palestinian territory. Thousands of Palestinian children are being killed by Israel’s killing machine, before the very eyes of those who profess to uphold human rights and values, yet remain silent and complicit.

This year, the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip mark Eid al-Adha under the shadow of Israel’s ongoing genocide, looming starvation and forced displacement. Meanwhile, Israeli occupation forces and extremist settlers continue to escalate their atrocities and egregious crimes in cities, villages and refugee camps across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.

The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine strongly condemns the relentless and systematic violations by the criminal Israeli occupation of Palestinian religious occasions. With utter disregard for Palestinian lives and rights, Israel ruins the joy of the Palestinian people during special religious occasions, bombarding and destroying mosques, denying the freedom of worship of the Palestinian people and flagrantly desecrating holy sites in brazen defiance of international law.

On this blessed occasion, the Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine calls upon Churches worldwide to take a firm stance and push for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza to put an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people. The Committee reaffirms the resilience of the Palestinian people to overcome this ordeal and expresses hope that their legitimate aspirations for freedom and independence will be fulfilled.
